Northern Michigan has produced cherries since 1852 with the first crops being planted by Peter Dougherty on Old Mission Peninsula. Today, the U. S. cherry industry produces more than 650 million pounds of tart and sweet cherries each year. Much of the cherry production is concentrated here in northern Michigan, which grows about 75 percent of the world's tart cherry crop.
We had the opportunity to reclaim vintage cedar from old cherry brining vats which were once located at Traverse City's West End Beach near where the volley ball courts are located today. The reclaiming of this wood is in alignment with our 3D Forestry Initiative, which harvest wood from dying, dead or down resources, including urban reclaimed materials. Our onsite master craftsman created this stunning and unique table.
3D Hardwoods is a product brand organized under Rare Earth Hardwoods.
All 3D Hardwoods products are made from wood harvested under 3D Forestry Initiative (3DFI) Guidelines. The ethos of the 3DFI is that wood is harvested from Dying, Dead, or Down timber resources (both domestically and internationally) including salvage from commercial logging, reclaimed old growth and urban reclaim.
