Rare Earth Hardwoods has always been committed to the responsible harvesting of the timber used in its products and is actually fervent about preserving the planet's greatest natural resource, upon which its very existence depends. Through continued education along with innovative non-impact forestry practices, REH continues a tradition of developing methods for producing hardwood products with less impact on the environment. Our company in Brazil, called Zero Impact Brazil (ZIB), is deeply committed to ecologically sound business practices. A little-known fact to many outside Brazil is that many times, even the trees being cut down legally to clear the land for private farming and ranching are subsequently either left on the ground to rot or are burned. That's where ZIB comes in. ZIB makes arrangements with landowners to buy and remove this unwanted timber. This commitment has earned the company the “Top of Environmental Quality” award from the Order of Parliamentary of Brazil (OPB). OPB noted in its letter of recognition that it values and encourages the initiatives of ZIB in the treatment of the environment, saying that it shows great responsibility in helping to establish and maintain “harmony in nature and the biodiversity of the planet.” Together, REH and ZIB also own 766 hectares (2000 acres) of Amazon forestland with the intention of protecting this forest from the clear cutting that occurs with large scale farming and ranching. This land is now a preserve for both flora and fauna.
Have you seen our new Radial Hewn flooring yet? We are very excited about this new addition to our hardwood flooring collection. This new flooring is designed by Rare Earth Hardwood's very own Rick Paid. It can be custom made according to your specifications using a variety of wood species and a choice of color tints. We have three distinct design patterns - crossover, fishbone, and rixsaw.
The crossover finish uses a double radius pattern with distinct diamond appearance. The fishbone is a combination of elements of traditional and transitional patterns to showcase a unique double helix and diamond design. Lastly, the rixsaw is a partial radius pattern similar to what historically was commonly available from circle sawmills.
This product can be used on flooring, inlays, wall treatments, furniture, and more.
All of our radial hewn flooring is designed and distributed from our facility in Traverse City, Michigan.

We received these beautiful photos from a customer who purchased a Brazilian wood slab from us at Rare Earth Hardwoods last May. The homeowners, Jim and Jamie Fudym, used this one-of-a-kind wood slab to create a custom handmade countertop in their home's guest bathroom. Jim was kind enough to send along some photos of the process from start-to-finish. Way to go, Jim! We think this Brazilian wood slab countertop is simply stunning!
Jim said the process involved "white chalk, a good quality jigsaw, a random orbiter sander with 3 grades of sandpaper, and about 5 layers of polyurethane clear coat (spray, satin finish)."
Do you have a wood project featuring wood slabs or lumber from Rare Earth Hardwoods? We'd love to see it! Please contact us via our website or you can send us an email to email@example.com.
